A plain walk-through of what actually happens, from initial chat to written report.
← Back to ResourcesIf you're considering a Sensory Profile Builder session but aren't sure what actually happens, here's a plain walk-through.
Before anything formal, we have an initial chat about what you're noticing - what's hard, when, and what you've already tried. This isn't a test your child can fail; it's about understanding them.
You (and where relevant, your child's school) complete a detailed sensory questionnaire covering all eight senses - not just the five most people think of, but also proprioception (body awareness), vestibular sense (balance and movement), and interoception (internal body signals like hunger or needing the toilet). This is often where things start clicking into place for parents: patterns they'd noticed but couldn't name.
We talk through what the questionnaire reveals - which senses your child seeks out, which they avoid, and what that means practically for daily life at home and school.
You come away with a clear, written sensory profile: not just a diagnosis-adjacent label, but a practical picture of your child's sensory world, with specific strategies suited to them, that you can share with school, other professionals, or simply keep for your own understanding.
The whole process is designed to answer one question properly: what does my child actually need, and why? Rather than generic advice, you get a profile built around your own child.
